THE DOCK GOES WORLDWIDE WITH TRAD CONCERT
Over 15,000 viewers tuned in to last Wednesday’s live internet broadcast from The Dock in Carrick on Shannon. The webcast, which was streamed on www.LiveTrad.com, featured some top traditional Irish musicians, and was watched by thousands of viewers all over the world, in countries like the USA, Australia and Germany, as well as lesser known trad hot spots like Turkey, South Korea and Bolivia.
“The Last Wednesday trad series has been running at the Dock for almost 5 years now. It’s great to be able bring one of these concerts to an international audience,” said Siobhan O’Malley, Director of The Dock. “We can cater for a maximum audience of around 120 at a time at the Dock’s performance space itself, so bringing this  to an online audience opened up a whole new experience for both ourselves and for the musicians.”
The audience was treated to a number of performances. First, Achill based flute and whistle player Des Cafferkey was joined on stage by Seamie O’Dowd, Junior Davey and Kevin Doherty. Then harp player Laoise Kelly took to the stage for a solo performance, before being joined by Michelle O’Brien on fiddle for the remainder of the evening.
Throughout the performances, which were free to view on the net, online viewers were able to post live messages which were read out at intervals by the musicians. This meant that, while the performance was an intimate one, with just over 70 people in attendance at the venue itself, many more were able to enjoy the experience fully online.
