Two great new videos from two great Irish acts…

September 22, 2009

While Delorentos and Julie Feeney’s music is very different, both of them have new videos out at the moment which we are loving here at The Dock!

IMPOSSIBLY BEAUTIFUL by Julie Feeney (album PAGES) 2009

The ridulously talented Galwegian, Julie Feeney, is back with her new album Pages, which is possibly even more impressive than her debut Choice winning, 13 Songs. Having composed for and conducted a full orchestra, this  impossible to pigeon-hole album is well worth checking out. In the new video for Impossibly Beautiful, directed by Vittoria Colonna and out on October 2nd, she wears 18 gorgeous head-dresses (i want, i want!) by Piers Atkinson.

S.E.C.R.E.T by Delorentos (album You Can Make Sound) 2009

With their new album out on 9th October, Dublin indie-rockers, Delorentos are setting the bar high with the first single, S.E.C.R.E.T., which is available to download a week beforehand. It is an incredibly catchy affair and if you were watching the highlights of the match on Sunday you might well be still singing it! Its no secret that I am a big fan of, visual artist and film maker, Eoghan Kidney’s work – he has directed the video and as expected its fantastic…check it out above

Julie Feeney and band plays The Dock on Friday 16th October at 8.30pm and Delorentos play stand-up gig on Friday 20th November at 8.30pm.

Yes thats right the Comedy Club with the mostest is back with a bang…well a bounce actually – the comedy troupe with the biggest buzz around at the moment, Dead Cat Bounce, kick off our Autumn season of side splitting comedy in Carrick on Shannon.

Having just seen them at Electric Picnic you can take our word for it, these guys are like nothing you have ever seen before! Their new show Wired is getting rave reviews and sell out shows. After a  a busy few weeks at Montreals Just for Laughs and Edinburghs Fringe we are really excited about having them here tomorrow night. The show kicks off at 8.30pm with guest MC Damian Clarke. Check out this clip from last years fringe to see what they are like.

Tickets are only €15 (€12 if you are a comedy club member) and seening as its the first club night after our summer holidays we have a couple of tickets up for grabs – first person to email Michelle telling us that you want tickets  and they’re yours…simple as!

See you there!

The right KIND of stuff

September 3, 2009

The next visual arts exhibition is due to open on the 19th of September. Notions of Capital highlights the value of community. In the organising of the exhibition The Dock has been at the receiving end of a lot of good thought and generosity.

The kind of stuff that makes the world goes round.

Brian Sweeney and his band of volunteers from Carrick on Shannon’s Civil Defence have been wonderful in ensuring that all health and safety aspects to the water performance on the River Shannon will happen in accordance to plan. THANKS A MILLION CARRICK CIVIL DEFENCE

Alan Dunne from AJ Sound in Carrick is supplying the sound equipment for the performance and has really helped us out with a sound head, good advice and a really great price. THANKS A MILLION ALAN DUNNE

Aura Leisure centre came to the rescue without a second thought offering us the beautiful public pool in Carrick for free to practice for the performance . THANKS A MILLION AURA LEISURE CENTRE

The Forest Service has kindly sponsored a beautiful Oak tree which will act as A Hope Tree (more about that to follow) in the foyer of The Dock for the duration of the exhibition. THANKS A MIILION FORESTRY, especially Noel Foley.

The performance of Heteratopic Glitch would not be going ahead if it were not for some superbly enthusiastic women… GIGANTIC THANK YOU TO Ms Mary Blake, Ms Diane O Callaghan, Ms Ciara Mc Cormack, Ms Aisling Seoighe, Ms Sarah Moran, Ms Edel White, Ms Zoe Dunne and Ms Sinead Guckian.

Without you ladies the show could not go on……
